Adjectives
Adjectives are words that describe or modify nouns (people, places, things, or ideas) by providing more information about their qualities or attributes.
They can describe characteristics such as size, colour, shape, age, origin, material, or condition. Adjectives help make nouns more specific and vivid, allowing us to paint a clearer picture or evoke stronger emotions in writing or speech.
For example, in the phrase “a big house,” “big” is the adjective describing the size of the noun “house.”
Here are three examples demonstrating the use of adjectives, the ‘before’ sentences do not have an adverb and the ‘After’ sentences have the adjectives included:
Before: She wore a dress.
After: She wore a beautiful dress.
Before: He bought a car.
After: He bought a shiny new car.
Before: They live in a house.
After: They live in an old Victorian house.
Now a longer sentence
Before: The team won the game.
After: Despite facing a formidable opponent, the determined team won the fiercely competitive championship game.
